NARDA 2014: August 21-22, 2014

Mihaylo6Southeast corner of CSUF campus

The Numerical and Analytical Relativity and Data Analysis (NARDA) meeting will be held at California State University, Fullerton (CSUF), on Thursday, August 21, 2014 - Friday, August 22, 2014. As with past NRDA meetings, the purpose of this meeting is to bring together numerical relativists, analytic relativists, and gravitational-wave astronomers to discuss progress and challenges in gravitational-wave source modeling and data analysis in the advanced detector era.

This meeting preceeds the LSC-VIRGO "September" Meeting at Stanford University, 25-29 August 2014. Non-LSC waveform modellers are also welcome and encouraged to participate in the first two days of the LSC meeting in Stanford (August 25+26), for the sessions where waveform modeling is discussed.

Travel and Lodging

We recommend flying into the John Wayne Airport, Orange County (SNA), which is approximately 20-30 minutes away from the campus. Southwest Airlines often has good fares for flights from San Francisco to Orange County, but they don't show up in most aggregators.

A number of ground transportation options are available, including shared-ride vans such as SuperShuttle (each way approximately $20 for the first passenger, $9 for additional passengers) and taxis (cost no more than about $50 each way).

There are two hotels within easy walking distance of the campus. We recommend the Fullerton Holiday Inn and Suites, where we have reserved a block of 30 rooms at a group rate ($109/night, call 714-579-7400 and mention "NARDA meeting Cal State Fullerton" to get the group rate; the rate should be available by Tuesday, June 17). Another good choice (even closer to campus) is the Fullerton Marriott at California State University, where we have reserved a block of 10 rooms at a rate of $129/night (call 714-738-7800 and mention that you want the "NARDA meeting CSUF Physics Block" rate, or reserve online).

We encourage you to make your reservations promptly, because the hotels might not have last-minute availability (since the following week is the first week of classes). Both block reservations are for check-in on Wednesday night, August 20, and check out as late as Saturday morning, August 23. These rooms are available on a first-come, first-serve basis, and any unreserved rooms will be released on July 29, 2014. After that, you might still be able to get a reservation at the regular rate.

Update on parking: If you plan to drive to the campus, you'll need to purchase a parking pass ($8/day). Please see the Cal State Fullerton visitor parking FAQ for where to park and how to buy a pass (you can buy one online or at stations on campus).

Dining

There are many good options, both on campus and a short walk off campus, for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. On-campus options include The Gastronome cafeteria and a food court in the Titan Student Union building.

Update: Google map of nearby, recommending dining choice

Things to see

The northeast corner of the CSUF campus houses the Fullerton Arboretum, a 26-acre botanical garden. CSUF is about 20 minutes away from Disneyland.
