Cal State Fullerton - Department of Physics

The Louis and Sara Shapiro Memorial Loan Fund

---------------------------------------------

The purpose of the fund is to provide short-term loans to physics graduate students and to physics majors with upper-division standing.

Graduate students enrolled in the Physics M.S. degree program who are not on probation are eligible to apply for loans under this program. Likewise undergraduate physics majors who are not on probation and who have attained upper-division standing are eligible to apply.

The fund is administered by a loan committee consisting of the Physics Department Chair, Vice Chair, Graduate Advisor, and Undergraduate Advisor. The loan committee gives first priority to incoming, nonresident graduate students who need funds to obtain housing and other necessities. Second priority is given to other eligible graduate and undergraduate students who have an emergency need for funds, when - in the opinion of the loan committee - a short-term loan would allow the student to continue to make progress towards the degree.

The maximum term for loans from this fund is 120 days, and the loans are interest free provided they are repaid by the due date. Past due loans are subject to an interest charge. More information about the loan fund is available from the Physics Department office.
