.....FUN STUFF.....HEIDI'S HOBBIES......

DISCLAIMER: Try any of these sports at your own RISK!!

I like to read science fiction, mysteries and just regular PHYSICS and the occasional math book! AND...

KARATE

I have enjoyed practicing karate for several years. Now I prefer to just to work out at the gym. I studied American Kenpo at the AKKA headquarters in Albuquerque NM for 2 years (1991--92).

SHORIN-RYU : I have practiced Shorin-yu style of traditional Okinowan Karate.

Mt BIKING

I ride a KHS pro FZ Montana, 17" bike with a combination of LX and XT shifters (XT on the rear). Most of the components are LX. Presently I have a Judy XC fork, which is pretty good. Prefer X country over the down hill. I have entered several bike races in the beginner class, and placed in a couple of them. Now I ride only for fun I am no longer interested in competition. One of my favorite places is Los Alamos, I have ridden just about all the trails within a 10 mile area of the town. Pipe line is the best! After the fire a couple of years ago many of the best trails near town were washed away in floods. I have ridden in Big Bear (Snow Summit) and have participated in the all women weekend MB clinic (in 1994). I do most of my local riding in Chino Hills park (Carbon Canyon). I have been riding for over 9 years.

Some free advice, ALWAYS wear a helmet that fits, carry a repair kit. Ride under control, the more jerks out there out the more likely good riders are to loose access to trails. GOOD riders ride UNDER CONTROL at all times. You want to go fast... enter a race! Then you can go as fast as you like, everyone is moving in the same direction, you can get as many broken bones and bruises as you like!

ROCK CLIMBING

I enjoy climbing at The Rock Gym, and have also climbed (top rope only) at Joshua Tree National Park at several locations there. I have been climbing for a few years. I would never climb with anyone you don't trust your life to! 'cos that's what you're doing every time they hold the rope for you.

I've spent too many years studying to ever try free climbing outside... I like my head in once piece thanks!

OTHER

I've tried a whole range of athletics sports... middle and long distance running, long jump, hurdles, shot put, javelin and was in school teams as a high school student, athletics, (grass) hockey (ouch, still feel those darn sticks on my chins) and netball (netball may have been at primary school? I forget). I have also tried skiing (I don't do the black diamonds anymore though, I'm tired of having my body parts xrayed), snowboarding, kayaking down rapids (Taos New Mexico USA) not very big rapids I might add, and hang gliding (Leek Wales) and parachuting (Ipswich) while I was a university student. I still ski occasionally, I'd like to try ice-climbing one day.
