Dr. Murtadha Khakoo was born in Zanzibar Town on the island of Zanzibar, a part of the nation of Tanzania, lying off the eastern coast of Africa. His early studies were accompanied by ample time playing football (soccer), fishing with his friends, and enjoying the sandy beaches and island life.

After completing high school in Abingdon, Berkshire, UK he attended University College in London, where he graduated with honors.  Continuing his studies at University College, he earned a doctorate in atomic physics.  This experience not only earned him his degree but instilled a love of London which persists to this day.

Dr. Khakoo joined the Cal State Fullerton Physics faculty in 1989, and became a U.S. citizen in 1997.  As a CSUF professor, he divides his time between teaching undergraduate and graduate physics courses and working with students in his experimental laboratory facility on atomic physics research.

A Fellow of the American Physical Society, a Fellow of the Institute of Physics, and a Chartered Physicist, Dr. Khakoo has been the recipient of more than $1.6 million in grants and fellowships and co-holds a patent for a pulsed-electron gun.

Family life is of great importance to Dr. Khakoo. He lives in Orange County with his wife Sherbanu and his children Naushad and Sabaha. 

Dr. Khakoo recently presented a plenary paper at the at the DAMOP 2005 Conference on Electron scattering from fundamental targets.
