Education

  • BSc 2002 Syracuse University
  • PhD 2006 Universit├Ąt Hannover (Germany)

Research Interests

My research interests are in the areas of direct detection of gravitational waves using laser interferometry and in modern optics (in particular, light scattering and interferometry).

I'm a member of the LIGO Scientific Collaboration - an international collaboration that helps develop and uses kilometer-scale laser interferometers to directly detect gravitational waves from astronomical objects such as black holes, neutron stars and supernovae. At Fullerton, I direct GWPAC and supervise students on research focused on characterizing optical scatter from materials envisioned for future detectors, on characterization of the LIGO detectors, and on searches for gravitational-wave bursts and potential electromagnetic counterparts.
