Research Interests
My research interests are in the areas of direct detection of gravitational waves using laser interferometry and in modern optics (in particular, light scattering, optical properties of materials and interferometry).
I'm a member of the LIGO Scientific Collaboration - an international collaboration that helps develop and uses kilometer-scale laser interferometers to observe gravitational waves from astronomical objects such as black holes, neutron stars and supernovae. At Fullerton, I direct GWPAC and supervise students on research focused on characterizing optical scatter from materials envisioned for future detectors, on characterization of the LIGO detectors, research and development for the next generation of ground-based detectors such as Cosmic Explorer and on searches for gravitational waves.
