Outstanding Masters Candidate
Tom Kim receives this year’s Outstanding Masters Degree Candidate Award for exceptional performance. Tom joined our masters program after completing his undergraduate physics degree at Cal Poly Pomona. Tom has excelled in all his classes by a wide margin and has been involved in research with Professor Ionel Tifrea on a project to analyze spin diffusion in low dimensional systems. Tom plans to continue next year with Ph.D. studies at UC Riverside or the University of New Mexico.
Alian Aquino has excelled academically, currently Cum Laude in Physics, while balancing large course loads, research in electron scattering in Professor Greg Childers laboratory, outside employment, and significant volunteer work. Alian has volunteered at Hoag hospital in Newport Beach, and during the summers he has volunteered at free medical clinics in underserved regions of Honduras. In the fall, Alian will be attending medical school at the University of Colorado–Denver. We are proud to recognize Alian's academic achievements and scholarship with the department's annual Outstanding Scholarship Award.
