Attwood Machine

Summary of the Demo

When m1 = m2, the machine is in equilibrium regardless of position of weights.

When m1≠ m2, both masses experiences uniform acceleration.

 

 

Equipment List

  • Post with clamp to attach to table, and pulley at the top.
  • Two 700g masses connected by a string.
  • An assortment of smaller masses (20g, 50g) to put on top of one of the larger masses.

 

Set-up Instructions

Set-up time: 2 minutes.

Time to do demos: 5 minutes
